Audacity, A Freeware Audio Editing Program

If you are just getting started, or only have an occasional need to record audio, try this free audio editing program.

Audacity is a freeware, multi-platform, open source program that can be downloaded. It is a simple and very useful program. The current version is 1.2.6 which is greatly improved over earlier versions of the program.

The program is very responsive, is easy to use and has a good variety of effects. It also accepts VST plugins.

This version is marked by the addition of level meters,  which makes the program much more useful. This is a multiplatform program which has versions for Windows 98 or higher, Mac and Linux.

This program is a work in progress, so check for the latest revisions. It's definitely worth trying if your needs are simple. As freeware, the price is right. Download it at: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
